When you wake up in the morning, who is lying beside you? No-one? When you come home from work, who has dinner waiting for you on the table? No-one? There’s been a little bad press in the past about what used to be known as “Mail Order Bride” sites, where guys could buy the contact details of women in former CIS countries who were looking to relocate and marry Western guys (predominantly from the USA in the early days). Possibly as a result of that bad press, some of these agencies have closed down and, in the USA, new legislation has been brought in to protect the ladies from less scrupulous gents, and also, to an extent, protect foolhardy guys getting entangled with scammers. The result these days is a much more modernized agency network, with fast translated email contact between the guys and the girls, express flower and gift delivery, visa advice, conducted tours, and a whole host of other features designed to convince us guys that marrying a woman from one of the ex-USSR states is actually quite a decent proposition these days.
As for the bad press, every successful industry has its share of failures and the introduction agency scene is possibly more prone to them than others because of the attitude of certain customers. We’ve heard of several cases where a middle-aged guy has pursued and married a girl in her early twenties, only to find that either he can’t cope with her youthful demands (not just in the bedroom) or she has simply seen the light and gone after someone more at her own level of maturity. Of course, a number of these guys (possibly to save their own embarrassment) kick up a fuss and cry wolf, claiming that they have been conned by the agency and lost thousands of dollars in the process. In reality, if they had spent some time reading the advice given on the pages of the very agencies they were using, they would never have been so silly in the first place. And, just like any industry, there are scammers at large, pretending to be down-trodden (but beautiful) women who lure in unsuspecting guys and then start demanding money for all sorts of heart-rending reasons. 90% of these scammers are actually men, using fake identities and photos taken from glossy Russian fashion magazines (we’d all recognize the fake photos of a girl if she looked like Jennifer Lopez or Jessica Simpson).
The fact remains that women from Ukraine, Russia and other countries from the former USSR region are now increasingly looking for husbands from Western countries, and they have a different outlook on life than many from elsewhere in the world. Whilst they hold high ambitions to secure well-paid and satisfying employment (to provide for their families), they also hold a high desire to build a strong family and “home coziness”. One such lady said to me “The man is head of the family, the woman is the neck”. Ask most ladies from these countries and they will tell you exactly what we have written here.
They seek a man to be the head of their household and the keeper of their heart - And they cannot find the man they seek in their home countries. In Russia alone there are 88 men to every 100 women, and all the “good” men are taken. Women from these countries are now looking further afield, and are prepared to up sticks and relocate to a new country in order to fulfill their dreams. The Internet has broken down the barriers of normal dating culture, and enables us to search farther afield for a woman who will become the mistress of our home and the princess of our heart.
